Haute Enchilada - Moss Landing CA

If you take Highway 1 South from Santa Cruz CA, towards Monterey, CA you will pass through the small town of Moss Landing.

You cannot miss Moss Landing, the tall chimneys of the power station dominate the surrounding region. A few hundred yards south of the entrance to the power station compex, on the ocean side of Highway 1 there is a turning which takes you into Moss Landing itself. This road then forks turn left and The Haute Enchilada is on the right side of the road opposite a small gift/antique shop.

The Haute Enchilada serves excellent food, particularly seafood and seasonal vegetables and fruit from the Moss Landing, Watsonville and Castroville areas.

They also serve an excellent Mole (Mexican chocolate sauce)

Meals are well portioned a meal for two will cost about $20 but it is quality food and whether you choose to eat outside in a pretty garden or inside in this richly proportioned bar/restaurant you will have great memories.

Mexican in Coalinga CA

About mid way between San Francisco, Sacramento and Los Angeles, on I5 take the California 198 or California 33 routes west about 15 miles into the small city of Coalinga.

Nestled at the west side of the San Joaquin Valley this town holds several treasures, oil a view of the C and Mariscos 2000 Mexican Diner/Restaurant at the corner of Elm and 5th Street.

Mariscos is small, it seats about forty people and does not look impressive from the outside. Adjacent to a donut bakery and cattycorner to Me & Eds pizzareia you can miss it very easily.

The food is good Mexican, nothing I have eaten here has ever disappointed.

Food is inexpensive, a burritto diner plate costs just $6 and a meal for two can cost as little as $12 plus tip.

All food is cooked fresh so expect a little wait from ordering to delivery at your table, but you will leave the plate empty at the end of the meal.

I particularly enjoy the Menudo, only served on Saturday and Sunday and large servings of everything on the menu is assured.

The wait staff are always helpful and courteous.

Being a small city Coalinga has few places to eat really good food. But Mariscos 2000 is a jewel that locals often keep to themselves.

If you are passing along I-5 or crossing the mountains from King City on CA 198 try this little gem of a restaurant.
