Hello thank you for visiting this blog
My name is William and please feel free to post feedback on my posts and also to make suggestions
as to the types of eating places that you would like to see highlighted on this blog.
Though I am English by birth, spending my first forty-five years in England, I am now American by choice. I have lived in the U.S. since April 2006. I am married and met my wife on a train trip around the U.S. in 2002, we married in 2004 and she lived with me in England for almost two years. I became a U.S. Citizen in 2010. That was a very special day for me, second only to my wedding day as a great moving experience.
Moving to the U.S. and going into a diner was a nerve wrecking experience the first time I did it. Coming from England we order from a menu which allows for no real variation. Eggs are fried, chips ( French Fries ) are almost the only available potato and coffee or other drinks must be paid for by the cup. Imagine the shock when I asked for eggs and had to choose from a dozen cooking methods, asking for toast meant another dozen decisions as to muffin or wheat, sou dough, wholemeal, and a another half dozen choices. The the fear as I took a sip from a cup only to have the server continually top off the cup with more coffee. You can imagine how I was seeing an ever rising check at the end of the meal.
Thankfully the top ups were free and the choices soon became second nature.
Eating in the U.S. is a great experience and a real culture shock. Try all the types of places to eat that you can. Mostly you will find some great food.
